Why we Use Sheep Sorrel without the root.
In the days when Native Americans made their tea they most likely used plants that were gathered in the wild. You can read about Renee Caisse drying herbs in her basement and we are assuming she was able to find and pick wild Sheep Sorrel with the root.
Today there is not nearly enough wild harvested sheep sorrel with root available to support our tea production. We also strongly believe in protecting our precious wild plant populations. For this reason we use 100% certified organic cultivated sheep sorrel that is grown on a beautiful organic farm in the Pacific Northwest. Our product is mechanically harvested (it is not possible to pull the root with the plant) to ensure that we have the volume we need to provide this wonderful healing tea to our many customers. Even if we could find the product with the root it would have to be hand washed and would price our tea right out ot the market.
After years of consumer satisfaction you can be assured that Camas Prairie Tea essiac blend has the same health supporting potency as Renee's original formula.
Powdered vs. Cut: Changing some little things to make a longer lasting product.
Renee Caisse used powdered Sheep sorrel, Slippery elm and Rhubarb. She used cut Burdock root. We do not use powdered Sheep sorrel or Rhubarb. The reason for this is that Renee made essiac tea for her patients in very small batches. She powdered the herbs on a per batch basis. Seventeen years ago our tea was created so that not only would it provide the healing consituents of the orginal formula, but have a longer shelf life as well. The consituents in some powdered herbs break down more quickly than others. We wanted to make sure our essiac blend offers the most powerful healing support possible at the time it is used.
An exception to the above is our Slippery elm which is powdered for a specific reason. We do use the powdered herb because in that form it supplies the best mucilaginous properties which is an important attribute of the blend.
